Penterghast
Mrs Dene is a deformed teacher at Penterghast Primary School. Every day she has to deal with the children playing their tricks, shouting their names and punishing their strange teacher for her differences.
Having been rejected by the headmaster her aguish grows until she can no longer keep her sadness on the inside.
'Penterghast', though a stand alone short, was originally created as part of feature film, 'Every Picture'. The feature is about a couple trapped in a haunted school, the animation gives a little of the back-story on the school. This was our second venture into animation territory, though our first and currently only complete animated project.
It was always supposed to be a stylised 3 or 4 minute piece using 2 dimensional backgrounds and 3 dimensional characters. Animator John Horabin took on the project as one of his first complete short dramas.
Clare McKenna performs the voice-over for the school-boy narrating the story. Zhe Wu and Rhett Brewer (designer and composer respectively) created this creepy soundtrack in just a few days once the animation was near enough complete.
