Beautiful People

Beautiful People

Following a dream sequence in which five beautiful models pose for our protagonist, he wakes to find himself in a doorway, in the early hours, at the party full of self-proclaimed ‘beautiful people’. A variety of different events then occur, which result in each one of the real-life models eventually offering themselves to him.

The film is divided into three parts, each focusing on the same period in time but in different genres and from different perspectives. The first section is slow and dreamy, with a pretentious French voice-over. Part two has a slick music video style and part three is shot in one take, featuring a tongue-in-cheek commentary by a very arrogant, very misled director.

We went into production on our second short film just weeks after the ‘Sweet Sayuri’ shoot, but long before that first venture into short film world had wrapped itself up. Cast and crew were put together hastily, and originally included Lara Greenway who was later cast in our first feature film, ‘Every Picture’.

Notable casting included Ryan Laccohee, who also played in ‘Every Picture’ and ‘Sweet Sayuri’ as well; quite a favourite in those early days, before he vanished to the northern parts of the country. The film also featured the voice of Jonty Reason, a Brannegans man, performing the ‘director’s commentary’ over the final third of the film. (‘Brannegans’ is the name of the small team that regularly entered film-making challenges).

It was produced by Alison Mulford and Tim J. Berry, directed by Tobias Tobbell and completed in October 2003. It was reasonably well received at several screenings, including POV, Cardiff, Portobello Film Festival - 2004 and The 291 Gallery.
